Emily Snell
Emily Snell is a contemporary visual artist based in Newport, Wales, working across sculpture, photography, drawing and installation. Using primarily silicone and latex, she creates sculptural forms that evoke the body and explore themes of femininity, touch, and intimacy. Her intuitive, materials-led process embraces play and ambiguity, blurring boundaries between the body and materials. Emily Snell’s identity as both an artist and a qualified art psychotherapist deeply informs her approach, allowing her to channel emotions through materials in an open-ended way. Her work invites viewers into spaces of vulnerability and desire, engaging them in powerful and evocative encounters.

My practice
In my practice, I draw on my background in art psychotherapy to explore ideas of containment, care, and emotional processing. I trust my unconscious and investigate boundaries—between myself and others, body and object. My recent works such as Holding Space I and II (2022) embody these ideas, using metal frameworks—designed like drawings—to hold fluid silicone forms that suggest skin and emotional states. Recent exhibitions include Open Call Exhibition at The Old Town Hall, Trowbridge (2025) and Drawing Boundaries at Gerald Moore Gallery (2022).
